18号线一期南段(航头站至御桥站)全长约15公里，共设航头站、鹤立西路站、下盐路站、沈梅路站、繁荣路站、周浦站、沪南公路站、御桥站(与11号线换乘)8座车站，计划年底开通试运营。受延期复工影响，18号线航头基地正全力建设中。上海地铁充分利用既有线路的川杨河基地，完成18号线新车部分调试和转线工作，还实现了18号线在新线边建设边验收的情况下进行接触网“热滑”试验，为后续信号系统和车辆静态、动态调试争取时间。

18号线列车的驾驶设计等级达到全自动驾驶最高等级。列车车头采用开放式司机室，将原本司机室及车客室两个相对独立的空间融合，增加乘客有效站立面积。该型号列车可根据四季变化自动调节客室内的照明亮度及色温。空调采用最新复合出风设计，带给乘客无风感、无温差的舒适环境体感。
